Social Work Internship

Scope of Internship
Timeframe: Spring of 2015
Number of Hours: 15- 20
(This position is unpaid)



BDN seeks a Social Work Intern to assist the Support Services Coordinator in social services efforts.  This internship will give the intern valuable, real-world experience, as well as providing the organization with additional administrative support. . Well suited candidates should have an interest in social work. Students must be currently enrolled or recent graduates and plan on pursuing a career in a related field. This is an unpaid position, but it comes with a great reference and lots of fun in the office -- including daily recess and plenty of hi-fiving. This position is located in Brockton, MA. 


Responsibilities:  

Familiarize yourself with early child care Support Services Coordinator duties and operations
Assist with researching resources for families and students
Assist the Support Services Coordination with initial intakes and social histories on new students
Assist and observe team meetings with teachers and administration.
Assist with IEP meetings
Attend Social Work meetings
Assist with Administrative Duties of the Support Services Coordinator
Assist the Support Services Coordinator in obtaining items needed by identified families
Learn about the special needs, treatment options, behavior approaches for students with developmental delays, mental health issues and autism
Tour facilities to learn more about the resources in the community
Ability to deal with extreme behaviors and crisis
Assist the Support Services Coordinator with phone calls to parents regarding some students
Help develop partners in the community
Advocate for students in the community
Advocate for students educations, safety, and well being
Assist with risk assessments
Assist in completing enrollment of children in the Supportive Child Care contract
Assist the Support Services Coordinator in assessing support  services for supportive children and families as needed
Attend case conferences with the Support Services Coordinator, other outside agencies including, and team meetings
Assist the Support Services Coordinator with preparing written Individualized Service Plans for each supportive child assigned
Assist Education Director and Administrative team with planning family events (Family Night Activities, parent education, etc.)
 
Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Social Work
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Familiar with Microsoft products
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities
Comfort with a playful, exuberant and mildly irreverent workplace culture
